The first recipients of the Richard Seff Award, Margo Martindale and Tom Aldredge, with me as the ham in the middle of the ham sandwich. I had never seen Margo Martindale’s work until Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, for which she won. But of course she’d been creating magic all over the place for twenty five years or more. I did know Tom Aldredge’s work, and he always contributed mightily to every show he graced. But these were exactly the sort of performers I’d wanted to honor. A committee of critics and other sages chose them, but I could not have been happier with their choices. (Photo John Quilty)
